Semi Permanent Makeup FAQ's
BrowsandLashesByLauren
Previously Tattooed/micro bladed:
Clients that have work done by other artists need to contact Lauren before booking an appointment. A picture of your brows can be sent via email or text in order to evaluate how much pigment you have remaining. Not all previously tattooed clients are good candidates for Powder Brows.

What are Powder Brows and MicroShading?
Powder Brows is permanent tattoo using a powder "look" technique which implants pigments into the epidermis/dermis layer. Results are lighter in color at the front of the brow and gradually get darker towards the end of the tail which resembles a tint like color or more of a make up look. This technique is achieved with a tattoo machine and needle. The end result can be very light & subtle to more filled in and darker makeup look. MicroShading is a combination of Powder Brows, but with a small portion of Microblading 'hair strokes' added to the front of the brow.

Can anyone have Permanent Makeup done?
Powder Brows or Microshading is an ideal option for almost all skin types, as long as the brow skin is healthy, free of sun damage, fine lines/ wrinkles, acne and rosacea.

What factors will affect Powder Brows?
Sun Exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading
Age and Metabolism. The faster your metabolism the faster the pigment will fade
Excessive Bleeding: Excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. While this is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow pre care instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications, alcohol, and caffeine at least 24 hours before your procedure.

How long do the brows last?
The procedure is semi-permanent and your results last approximately 1 - 3 years, depending on your skin type, beauty products and environmental factors. Powder Brows & Microblading are typically a 2 step procedure with the initial appointment and the touchup session around 5 - 6 weeks later. The 2nd session ensures that the color is locked in and doesn't leave the skin completely.

How is the shape determined?
During your first session (approximately 2.5 hours), Lauren will custom design your brow shape using a brow mapping method based on your bone structure, eye placement, face shape, and desired look.

Do I need to wax or trim my eyebrows before my appointment?
No, it is not necessary or recommended for a client to get rid of any natural hair she may already have. Lauren works with your eyebrow hair so please no waxing before your appointment.

Does it hurt?
For most clients, there isn't pain associated, but rather slight discomfort at times. Once Lauren does the outline and first pass, a gel epinephrine is applied to the area to minimize discomfort. Most of Lauren's clients are able to relax and snooze away.

What is the precare for my appointment?
Do: Please fill in your eyebrows as you normally would so we can see what you are used to. Feel free to bring in photos of brows you love so we can get an idea of you brow goals.
Do: leave your brows as full as possible. Any shaping will be done during your session.

Do not wax, tweeze, or thread a minimum of 3 days before your appointment.
Do not take Vitamin E, Aspirin, Niacin, fish oil supplements, and Ibuprofen a minimum of 72 hours prior to their appointment.
Avoid alcohol 48 hours prior to your appointment and limit caffeine 24 hours before
Avoid sun and tanning bed exposure for 30 days before and after your procedure. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it which is not ideal for best results.

Note: Plan any tropical vacations a minimum of 14 days after your procedure as you need to protect your new brows from the sun and water.

What is the aftercare/at-home care like?
You will need to keep your brows extra clean.
You will gently wash them morning and night for 7 days with the cleanser provided. Make sure to wash outside of the shower with cold/warm water and only wipe in the direction of hair growth, no circles or hard rubbing.
Use the brow balm 1x time daily & gently apply with a Q-Tip
Avoid hot showers for the first 7 days
No excessive sweating for 7 days
No sauna, hot tub, pool, ocean, etc for 7 days
Do not pick, rub, or scratch the new brows or peeling flakes and avoid sleeping on face till healed
Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 weeks
No anti aging or acne products on them ever (Retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or other chemical exfoliants will cause fading)

What can I expect during the healing process?
Immediately after your first session your brows will appear bolder and sharper than what they'll actually heal as.

Day 1 - 3 Brows will be dramatically darker and seem a bit thicker due to the skin healing
Day 4 - 15 Brows will peel and seem very light
Day 16 - 42 Brows will reappear and may be a bit patchy

After 5-6 weeks the brows will be completely healed & this is when we perfect them with a Touchup Session.
For most clients, minimum of two treatments are usually needed, 5 - 6 weeks apart. At your touchup session, we will assess the color and retention and make adjustments if necessary.

Permanent Makeup Results:
BrowsandLashesbyauren does not guarantee healed results on anyone. The final result will vary from person to person. Makeup may still be required to give you the results you desire. At times, additional sessions after the first touch up are necessary. Everyone heals differently and at different rates. If your cosmetic tattoo does not heal perfectly after the first session, this is normal. We can easily go darker and add more fullness during your Touchup Session. Please also note that it is normal for your brows/lips to fade over time. That this is not something you get done every few months. Semi Permanent makeup should be done only a year once the previous work has drastically faded. Over doing it can cause permanent trauma to the skin.

Lash Extension FAQ's
BrowsandLashesbyLauren
How do I take care of my lash extensions?
Avoid oil-based products around your eyes such as moisturizers, cleansers, face masks, etc. Oil will break down the adhesive.
Avoid sleeping on your face as this can cause friction. Silk pillowcases help prevent damage to your lash extensions!
Do not pick or excessively touch your lashes. The more you pick and pull, the faster they will fall out.
Do not use an eyelash curler.
Do not use mascara on your extensions EVER!
Avoid getting close to oven heat while cooking or getting close to any sort of open flame.
Brush your lashes daily with the lash brush I provide for you after your service.
CAREFULLY clean your lashes daily with oil free cleanser and water to remove any oil or makeup. I retail a cleanser and brush for $15 you can pick up at your appointment that is specifically formulated for eyelash extensions & gently removes makeup.
Remember to book fills every 2-3 weeks to keep lashes looking flawless!

How long do they last?
A single natural lash has a life cycle of 3-4 weeks, and the lash extension will stay on until the eyelash sheds itself naturally. The average person loses 3-5 lashes each day. Everyone's hair growth is different, but fills are always recommended between 2-3 weeks to keep your lashes looking full and fresh. Aftercare plays a huge role in getting the most out of your lash extensions!

How do they feel?
Eyelash extensions are designed to be extremely lightweight so you don't even feel them at all!

Are they going to make my lashes fall out?!
When applied properly by a well-trained professional artist, lash extensions will not harm your natural lashes. With the correct weight of an extension, proper glue usage, and proper isolation, your natural lashes will have no problem. However, a good lash serum never hurts and can help with your natural lash growth & strength.

What is the process like? How long does it take?
Completely painless and relaxing! Your eyes will be closed for the entire duration of the service, and most people actually end up falling asleep. The extensions are applied one at a time, on each individual natural lash. Full sets range from 2-3 hours and fills range from 1-2 hours. This all depends on the look you are wanting and how many natural lashes you have.

How do I prepare for the service?
You should arrive to your appointment with absolutely no eye makeup, preferably no face makeup, and clean lashes. Once we start the service you will not be able to open your eyes until we are finished so make sure you use the restroom beforehand and note that you will not be able to use your phone. Refrain from using any oil based products around your eyes since oil will break down the adhesive bond.
We also recommend not drinking and caffeine beforehand, this will cause your eyes to flutter and not relax. We do play relaxing music in case you would like to take a nap during your service, but feel free to bring headphones to listen to your own music!

Can I wear mascara?
The best thing about lash extensions is you don't need mascara! Wearing mascara with your extensions is absolutely NOT ideal. The ingredients in mascara will weaken the bond of the extensions causing premature fallout and buildup on the lash line. IF you find you want to use mascara please talk to Lauren. As she can change the look/style of your lashes to better suit your needs/wants.
